During the Gawai period, there is this Aussie family who came to Sarawak for holiday. They come and they catch flu. They go and see doctor in private clinic and they were send to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for guarantee for suspicious of H1N1 inflenza infection. WHO protocol is to guarantee people within 7 days of flu like symptoms for travellers who come from infected countries. They will be released once proven negative of Type A H1N1 virus.
The SGH team were alerted and they were admitted to our infection ward. Many things were encountered during that period.
language barrier...
The father always complain in Aussie slang---the nurse look at me ( sort of blank) when I talk to them. They don't do what I tell them to do.They don't answer me......I don't blame my nurses... They don't understand you! Our Malaysia English is of low standard We speak Malaysia English--gramma--no....slang---- Malay slang etc...... You talk to people like me, I will understand. My English standard is sort of high( I am graduated from Senior Cambridge of London).Gheran... you understand what I say, do you?
Food.....
Because of cultural differences, we all eat different types of foods.Nobody is to be blamed.
In Aussie slang again....The 6 years old girl say.........(they were served porridge with ikan billis) I don't know how to eat the little fish in the 'mass'. I pity my nurses ---out from their own pocket, they order pizza for them. Then their father says, my kids are happier , after they eat the pizza. We Malaysian are good people. We care, we love you all , especially Australians. You agree with me ,Gheran?Ha..........Ha.........But Gheran, you no problem, you eat anything dad cook for you. We all like your taste of food. Keep up!
The worries.........
The Aussie family were worried to death for the hospital bill. The bread winner.--the father keeps wanting to ring the High commissioner of Australia.........They are foreigners, they will be charged 1st class charge. It is expensive. If I were them, I worry sampai hell........ But....... nothing to worry at all! Malaysia is good in certain thing. Our country's law is we don't charge---not even a cent (food also free of charge--FOC--including the pizza!) for communicable (infectious) diseases.
No more worries after 24 hours quarantine. The results were A-positive, H -positive, N also positive.BUT ,it don't match Type A H1N1! So they were release from 'jail' after 24 hours of admission .Praise The Lord! if more foreigners, more unforeseen circumstances for us! When my phone rings...........if it is sgh, I am extra alert. When will my worries gone? The Australian family is free from worries by now , or may be they are happily home. My worries not yet end....................................
