Last few days have been busy getting things ready. I am getting the vaccines ready for my nephew..He had spleenectomy done in year 1994 after an accident... fell down from bicycle and had his spleen severely injured-- ruptured. So he had his spleen removed. That time ,he had 2 pints of blood given after the operation.May be that time ,the doctors are not really smart. They never give him any vaccines. Years later, we knew that he should be given some vaccines to protect him from pneumonia. If he has pneumonia, the condition will be really serious. So we try to get vaccines for him.He got his 1st dose of Polyvalent pneumococcal( Pneumovax 23) in year 2003 from Johor Bahru GH. Now he is due for follow up vaccines doses. I ask the pharmacist. She give me the whole list of vaccines that are needed. OMG! If I am not in the medical line, I would not know all this.But Praise the Lord that He really guide me to the correct path.He needs the following vaccines.
1.Polyvalent pneumococcal( Pneumovax 23)-- Dose-- 0.5ml-- subcutaneous (Sc) route to be revaccinated Q 6 years. (Rm 92.70)
2. Quadravalent meningococcal polysaccharide(A/C/Y/W-135) --Dose--0.5 ml -Sc to be revaccinated Q 3-5 years. (Rm312.70)
3. Haemophilus b conjugate (Hib TITER)0.5 ml --dose-- 0.5 ml --intramuscular --to be given once in the life time. (Rm 52.00)
.Administered in the deltoid or lateral thigh region.
side effects.. fever, pain at injection site, redness, malaise 1-2 days
OMG! if I didn't ask around, I really don't know. I don't think our Junior doctors know. Sometimes we suggest something to some of the doctors, they are not listening. They thought that they are very grand. But actually NUTES.
